Upstairs the lounge is decorated in the latest look from 1974 - sticky red carpet and banquettes along the walls, lacquered black tables and walls stippled with the popular 'fan' pattern. Bar staff are friendly, professional and bring the drink to your table. This is a cosy pub for cold afternoons or evenings. Upstairs is more transient with tourists ordering ridiculous umbrella drinks - a sign outside proclaims 'cocktail bar' although bar staff are less than impressed when you try to order anything more complicated than a gin and tonic - and large parties on pub crawls. If you are in before five you can generally get a seat here. I'm not sure how true this is but I do know that about 15 years ago this pub took most of my monthly pay cheque.
